The Schola Europaea Gregoriana has the privilege of collaborating
in the 900th anniversary of the foundation of the Cistercian abbey of Fontenay.

Mgr Roland Minnerath, Archbishop of Dijon,
will preside over the mass concelebrated in Latin by
Dom Olivier Quenardel, Abbot de Cîteaux,
Dom Erik Varden, Abbot de Mount-St-Bernard,
Dom Antoine-Marie Beauchef, Abbot of Saint Joseph de Clairval, Flavigny,
and monks of the abbeys of Cîteaux and Flavigny.

The ordinary of the solemn mass will be drawn from the Cistercian Gradual 47,
copied at the beginning of the 1140s and held in the abbey of Tre Fontane in Rome.
The mass proper of the Dedication is published in the Graduale Triplex, 1979, p. 397.
The Night Office from the Office of St Bernard of Clairvaux, founder of Fontenay,
will be sung in the evening, at 9 pm, according to manuscript 1 (copied c1175)
at the Abbey of La Fille-Dieu (Romont, Switzerland).

The royal Abbey of Fontenay, currently in private hands, is situated close to Montbard,
halfway between Troyes and Dijon in France. Fontenay,
founded in 1118 by Bernard de Clairvaux,
is the best preserved Cistercian abbey
and is classified by Unesco as a World Heritage Site.

We will be 44 singers: 22 women’s voices and 22 men’s.
The Schola Gregoriana Europaea will sing under the direction of Olga Roudakova.
She has led the choir of Women’s Voices of the Chœur grégorien de Paris since 1997.
We will rehearse on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 September 2018 on site at Fontenay.
